Robin Jackson Candidate for Department Commandant

Department of California Marines,

I have declared my candidacy to run for Commandant for the 2010-2011 fiscal year because of my qualifications for the leadership responsibilities inherent in this office. I am confident I will accomplish the advancement of the mission, goals and objectives of the Marine Corps League.

As a Leaguer, I have been Junior and Senior Vice Commandant, as well as Commandant, at the Detachment level. In January, 2007, I was awarded the Distinguished Service award for my “Leadership as Commandant and Devotion to Duty.” At the Department of California level, I have served as Sergeant at Arms and Junior Vice Commandant.

My Marine Corps career spanned 20 years as a Reservist, including service as Platoon Sergeant with the 14th Rifle Company and Headquarters Company Commander of the Third Engineer Battalion, FMF.

My experience in the private sector includes being owner and proprietor of two automotive repair shops and co-founder and partner in an organizational development company that, among other things, developed training materials for Wells Fargo, Bank of America and James River Corporation.

My experience in education includes teaching high school, junior college and at a California State University where I was Department Chair.

Two immediate goals, if elected, would be to establish lines of communication with all California Detachments, and to initiate a program for retention of members.

My style of leadership is shown in the letters of the word “LEAD.”

L means to listen and truly hear what constituents are saying.
E means to educate, in the sense of informing and communicating at all levels.
A means to act quickly and meaningfully on problems and questions.
D means to determine “next steps” after a decision is made and to follow up.
