Brothers and sisters of the Marine Corps League,
I sadly have to inform you that PDD Wes Pennewell, Former Detachment #686 Commandant, California State Department Commandant, Pound Leader, Adjutant etc. lost his fourth battle with cancer. Wes served 2 tours in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star with a combat V, Vietnamese Service Medal with three stars, Vietnamese Campaign medal w/device, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Award (2nd Award) National Defense Service Medal and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He also received numerous awards and accolades from the numerous fraternal and benevolent groups he belonged to including but not limited to the Masons, Shriners, Odd Fellows, Clampers, Devil Dogs, 4th Mar Div Association, 5 th Mar Div Association and Marine Corps League. Wes died after a two decade long battle at home with his family and his pet dogs by his side in the early morning hours.
Wes's remains will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at Eggen and Lance Chapel, 1540 Mendocino Av. Santa Rosa on Thursday March 13 th at 1400 hours (2 PM). It is still very early in the planning stages so where family, friends and other loved ones will gather after is being worked on. I will try to get the word out to you all as soon as there is a development.
Wes was one of the hardest working persons I know. Wes was the true embodiment of "Once and Marine, always a Marine"
Semper Fidelis,
Steve Bosshard
