Marines:
The Department Commandant position is only a guiding beacon unless accepted by the troops as a real leadership entity. My position as Department Commandant has been an intensive study of management, sensitivity and civility training. I accept the fact that the above training really exists, “it does”, not in book knowledge and organized classroom surroundings, but in the form of human beings. Each of us by virtue of being human and individual always have the right answer to any and all questions or problems, but each one of us do not have the responsibility for the resulting outcome many times activities are put into play to cause conflict.

In order to advance our brotherhood we must continuously show our own enthusiasm and, as members, encourage any who by slacking off in one way or another undermine other Marine brothers and/or sisters to reflect on the oath of membership n promise “never bring harm in any way to a fellow leaguer or leaguers family.” This is not a “doom and gloom” message, I am pleased with the growth of the Department by addition of new detachments and detachment growth. Please accept my gratitude for all the support given to the Department of California in the name of “MARINE CORPS LEAGUE”. However, I do suggest each and every one of us revisit and confirm the oath as a Marine Corps Leaguer at the very next meeting of our own detachment if for no other reason than to bring the oath out and refresh in our mind what we are all about then extend our hand in friendship. If this does not heal some of the minor ailments in all the detachments, that I uncovered during my tour of duty, such as no shows and disinterest in following the chairs.
Someone once said, “Too soon old, too late smart,” how great is that? In case you haven’t keyed in, I am laying the education to the label of “ADVICE” the sage advisors and re-constructionists of any organization override the “by-laws” and rules of order to calmly have tellings, tellings in the form of common sense that when taken to fruition solve and defuse many problems. Let’s bring enthusiasm and common sense to the tasks ahead and show what can be done at our Department Convention at San Diego in June.
Semper Fidelis
